Not only corsets, lingerie and clothes..
The birth of Air Bags Collection was funny, I just was all dressed in rubber and any of my bags matched properly my outfit. I had a damaged wheel on my car. I took off the inner tube from the tyre, I cleaned and I draped a bag.
Then I did a research.. inner tubes create pollution if abandoned, so I start my ethical project.
Sold in past years in Chicago, Milan, London, Rome and to private celebrity people today Air Bags is come back. You can see some pieces at Opera Opera, in Hong Kong.
LOWER, G/F, 14 Gough Street, Central, Hong Kong, Central District, Hong Kong
Here below the official release of the project and some pictures.
Air-Bags
Air-bags is an ethical project developed by Ikonostas in 2005.
The wish of the designer is to create fashion items recycling materials that are disused and that generate pollution.
Also rubber is a good substitute for people who don’t use wear leather.
The inner tubes lived on the street, becoming part of each car.. and car is the vehicle transporting people, becoming part of our life.
Is rilevant to this matter the choice of the making. Each piece of Ikonostas Air Bags collection is shaped around it’s own use, the shape of the inner tube results from the pression of the inner gas. The material is not sewn by machine but handcrafted with studs.
Air Bags is a collection of one of a kind items.
Limited Edition.
When I was 13 I seen for the first time a Vivienne Westwood’s Fashion Show on TV.. and I thought ‘I love this woman, I will do something for her one day’.
I don’t know why my mind thought that..it was so pretentious.
When I was 19 I entered to a fashion school, I remember my first man drawing .. my teacher of art understood from that sketch that my favourite designer was Vivienne Westwood. The man I drown was naked.
When I was 22 I start to write my degree thesis, the name was ‘Il Teatro della Seduzione’ (The Theatre of Seduction).. it concerns the style of certain fashion shows that look like a theatrical performance, the focus was on Vivienne Westwood fashion shows.
Meanwhile I was writing the thesis I gone to her studio in London and I start to work with her.
After all these years I still think she is the best fashion designer in the world, well.. you can think what you like, she is my favourite one and I feel so lucky to spent 12 years working for her !!! I love my MUSE! ♥
